Some curated soulmate musings.
Song - “Born to Be Your Woman”
You’re my man, and I’m your woman
Where you lead me, I will go
I will stand strong beside you
No matter how hard the wind might blow
Our love will last forever, like this diamond on my hand
Cause I was born to be your woman, and you were made to be my manYou’re the breath in my body
You’re the blood that’s in my veins
You’re my strength when I grow weary
You’re my shelter when it rains
Our love will last forever, like this golden wedding band
Cause you were born to be my woman, I was made to be your manWe are bound by God forever
We’re part of a bigger plan
Cause I was born to be your woman
And I was made to be your man
I think, quite possibly, this is the absolute most perfect song there is. If you don’t know the back story of Joey + Rory, it’s worth a read. It makes this song so much more impactful.
Movie - “Serendipity”
This movie is just everything. I watch it every Christmas (and sometimes half-Christmas) and I love it so much. One of my few “must watch” Christmas movies.
This is absolulely one of my favourite lines - if you know the movie, you’ll know why. If you don’t, you will possibly be puzzled:
…I honestly think it’s dangerous to use the term “soulmate.” It implies there’s some magical element that we have no control over, like fate or destiny. I think holding on to beliefs like that stops us doing the real work.
Poem - Maya Angelou’s “Touched By An Angel”
I mean you have Byron’s “She Walks in Beauty”, Shelley’s “Love’s Philosophy”, but at the end of the day, can anything really top Maya Angelou’s “Touched By An Angel”?
We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls. We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free
TV Series - “Nobody Wants This”
I just finished watching the first season and I laughed and cried and snorted and wept. So good. Plus, that scene where he kisses her?!? Perfect. You’ll know it when you see it.
Actually, if you can’t be bothered to watch the series, here it is. Not to be heretical, and it is almost Princess Bride level. Before you hit me, I said almost :) And no, Serendiptiy doesn’t surpass Princess Bride on the Soulmate movie scale - duh, it was just too obvious.
Book - “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern
Now it may be that it made it here because I just finished it and well, yes. Amazing.
Graphic Novel - “Day Tripper” by Fábio Moon & Gabriel Bá
The two matching/complimentary panels on Pages 74 & 75 might be the two greatest panels ever drawn. This novel just yards at my heart strings and is the most perfect graphic novel story of all time.
Painting - the one hanging in my room
Probably my favourite piece of art that I own:
Sorry about the photo reflections - I didn’t want to take it out of the frame.
Such are some of my favourite creations that reflect the feeling and connection behind the word “soulmate” for me.
